I found a very neat site that can serve as a good inspiratoin for creating complex terrains to referance off of.

I see here aluvial fans, dunes and a nice winding river. If you look carefully at the shore there are billowy shapes that remind me of glacial melt offs or even lava flows. In the center bottom there is an intreasting transition between the flow channels and more varied flat basins.
It would be nice to re-create this type of variety within GeoControl someday but the idea of mixing different terrains with a crossfade as metioned in another post will certainly help to get steps closer to views like this.
