I'm having a problem with the overlay feature. It's not showing up unttil I zoom in. Zoom in: it appears, zoom out: it disappears.
I have a 4096 terrain (ter) and a 1000 x 1020 png image. The image appears at zoom level =280.
It's been a while since I've used the overlay feature so it may be I'm doing something wrong but I don't think so.
I prepare the image first. I'm changing the background to a normal layer in Photoshop. Setting opacity to 70% (what I did previously) and saving as a png. Incidentally, does the image need to be square- or does GC stretch the texture? I've tried both square and non square: both the same.

Any ideas?

// update on that. I'm having the same problem I had in a previous version where the overlay is only showing where the Brush has been used. This happens when at zero zoom. I have version 1.13- is this the latest??

the image must have the same dimensions as a terrain (256,512,.....) and be squared
else it will be resized,
to get it working, you must use the mask of the layer, not the general alphachannel. This is only possible, if the image is not on the background, but on a layer, else you can not create a layer mask. Please look into the docu of PS, to see, how you prodcue a layer mask. You have done it correct if there are two thumbs in the layer panel: One for the image, and one for the mask.

Hmm- I've just opened a terrain and the overlay is just fine. I think it may have been a mismatch between the image overlay and terrain dimensions. I was exporting from Wilbur and it offers 4097 for .ter: in short it's a bit confusing getting the dimensions right for .ters in he various apps I use, but it works fine now :)

Well I figured this was the correct thread to post in...
First I import a heightmap which is 2048 x 2048
then I have a sat image which is 6144 x 6144... I resized this from a 12288 x 12288 version

I am using a Tiff with an alpha channel, It loads correctly into the project area, but I cannot see the terrain below. Ive tried different values in the alpha channel but still cannot see what i want to modify.

Is there somewhere in the program where i need to do something or is this normal... Not seeing the terrain below?

-edit... I got it to work making the layer transparent and just saving it out... found the info in another thread

I hope I will find the time to improve the overlay image function in GeoControl2!!

The only thing i can think of which would be helpful is to mabey incorporate some of the layer transparency types like in photoshop... and a simple help me file to explain some methods...

For example if an image is made into greyscale it then will function better for some layer tranparency types. Like SOFTLIGHT or HARDLIGHT, the contours of the terrain would be the most prevalent part of the image coming through.

I am using High resolution sat images in my maps, Also using STRM data for the base form of the terrain. What I am trying to do is use Geocontrol to get similar data and mix it with the STRM data so the height is the same more or less. Last night I was finally able to get a better understanding of how the terrain can be manipulated... Im very happy with the results and am looking forward to trying the geocontrol2 with the isolines, it will probally make my life easier because of knowing exactly where the terrain should be. Doing it manually with the brush is a bit tedious and frustrating if I make an error along the way without having made a save point.

If I want to make a thread to discuss my projects, which forum section is best suited?

If you have purchased GeoControl1, you can try the pre-release of GeoControl2.

Your project really sound interesting. I think, "tips and tricks" might be the best forum.

The pre-release is time limited. After that, there will be a demo available, but also time limited. So, now is the best time for having a look on it.
