I have been thinking about the idea of making roads as you said for maybe the next version. I've done some tests with bitmaps, of course they are not as good as what GeoControl generates. A type of brush could be made with a very slightly soft edge, or maybe like a mask brush. Then if you either blur or average the greyscale color of the terrain inside the mask it creates a flat level at that particular height of the terrain. I made it work by doing it in photoshop, but of course the terrain was not that great from a bitmap. Just a notion.

excellant addition, I currently make paths for my ME-DEM terrains as a black and white mask (black is lowest, white is highest) in photoshop as a tiff, then convert in terConv to a terragen terrain, adjust the height in Terragen to a negative number for Black (the road it self, the lowest elevation) and a positive number for the white (the rest of the terrain) and then combine the road terrain with the terrain it is on. It is a hit and miss operation to get the right meld of the two. The only benefit is the tiff can be converted to bmp and the colors swapped and you have an instant mask to overlay a different surface or texture on the road.
So, a brush is that will paint the road in in the actual terrain generation stage is perfect,,,if the road could then be saved as a mask for use in terragen would be bliss..SeerBlue
