Hi !
Awesome job from the developper and testers !
Interface is neat and clear, rendering engine is really quick (the different erosion types are very realistic for a short calculation time).
I love the layers system.
Great software ! Bravo !

Hello to All
Thank you for such application. I've just tested it and I am quickly installing the full version. I'll be trying it in Carrara (too much time with fractals made me abandon it for a while. Also in Bryce5 -returning from abstracts and also fractals- and finally, in my good old POVRay :).
So wish me luck :)

Hello Marjorie,
welcome to you as our first Pov-Ray user. I am looking forward on a GeoControl terrain, rendered in Pov-Ray.

Really, it is a long time project -not to say ordeal
It's been a long time not using it (POV) and sometimes it can be very tricky because of the interface (or the lack of it), I'll have to take a look at the language and a lot of changes that have emerged with newer versions. However, I used once an application that used to read *.ter files and exported to *.pov. The main feature was the distribution of grass and object replicates on top of the terrain, the name was Forester and it was awesome. Although I had a reference about it on the website, I am afraid it has not been updated in a long time. Anyway, it sounds interesting.
In Bryce, on the other hand, I have some DEMs which I'd like to try, as well a long awaited try in new features in Carrara, not to mention plants, objects, and shaders. I guess it will be a good deal of import/export and trial and errors, and of course, a pleasurable learning experience (after a hd crash, on top).
Best Regards,
Marjorie

Well, if it is so, just have fun with the software you like most. We have here some carrara and bryce users too.

Marjorie,
Povray should take the .tga files that geocontrol exports and render them as height fields. My main limited experiences with povray and height fields match yours.. lots and lots and lots of fiddling around to get things in the right places.
But I didnt know forester exported to povray.. have to re-visit that....

Hi kittle
This is the address http://www.dartnall.com/. The page says that the last update was in 2002. The gallery is as impressive as GeoControl's samples.
Yes, the tga works with POV and even some other formats, as long as they are viewed as terrain_maps. . I am downloading POV again.

Hi :) Like the demoversion of GeoControl very much. I was just about to buy it when I found the exchange rate had upped the price by two pounds from yesterday. Might wait till tomorrow and see what the Euro/Pound is doing
I'm testing the program using pgm into Bryce. I also intend to use it in C4D (version 8.5).
One thing I'm not sure of as yet is the 'seamless' option. I'd prefer something a lot less repetative than in the help document, such as the Bryce endless fractal created when tiling terrains. While I wait for the exchange rate to dance again I thought I'd see what happens if I import Bryce tiled terrains and work with those in GeoControl though suspect it will be hard to keep the edges neat.
The potential of this software to make better looking landscapes is enormous. Just hope I can learn it well enough to do it justice.

Hello Katey,
the difference between such a fractal tiling and the seamless terrain is the memory usuage, the tiled need much more.
But in version 2 there will be a tiling function to create very great landscapes.

Hello everyone
I've just regeistered, and am very excited about this product. I'm not very experienced in using terrain generating programs - done a bit of work with Terragen, and have just started using Bryce. I've tried the GeoControl demo, and it so easy to use. You guys weren't kidding when you state it's suitable for beginners and professionals. Alot of 3d applications have a steep learning curve, but this one is great. I jumped right in and started creating terrains. I'll definately be buying it. Thanks! :D

Hello Willem and Madeleine,
some impressive artwork at your site.
Hope, you like GeoControl. Then I would see some impressive Bryce artwork with GeoControl. :-)
Johannes
Just a quick hello here. Been playing with the demo for a while now and decided to buy before the full price kicked in. I'm already looking forward to version 2 with roads and stuff :D

I played with the Geocontrol demo for awhile and bought it yesterday :D
Right now I am running it on win98SE and I am eagerly looking forward to the Mac version, so I can run it on my much faster workstation. Even on 98SE it runs well though.
I will be using it a lot in Carrara. Johannes, your terrain tutorial for Carrara really got me up to speed in hurry. C5 has some excellent terrain texturing tools, and I also have the ground control plug-in.
I've been a 3d artist since Bryce 1.0, and I have been waiting for terrain controls like this for a long time. Geocontrol is a feast for me.
thanks,
Scott
Gah... spam bots.
Anyway, I found myself over here while looking at the Adventure Middle Earth (well, it's a German mod, and it's "Abenteuer Mittelerde" in that language) mod for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. What they've been able to do with your program was most impressive. I'm part of another Oblivion mod, one that is going to recreate the landmass of The Elder Scrolls III. I'm considering doing the height mapping for the mod, and if I do, I'll likely be using your tool. I'd have bought a liscence by now if I wasn't trying to save up for some necessary computer upgrades (in the way of cooling... my video card is constantly hitting over 100 degrees Celsius, which is very bad).
Keep up the great work, guys! :D

Hello everybody,
I stumbled about the link to GC in the 'Rosity Bryce forum - and hurried to get a first look at this new terraingenerator. Now I'm testing the demo version and I'm really fond of it. For a Brycer it's an answered prayer, having total control about everything on a terrain. Seems like the times of the countless headbangs and bitten tabletops have come to an end ;).
Seems also like CG will be my next purchase, I only have a question: You are talking here alot about version 2, when will be the release? And will we get the possibility of upgrading the older version for free? (Just don't wanna buy version 1.1 now and pay again for nr.2) If not, I'll better wait a bit.
In all cases, thanks so much for this wonderful programm!
Cheers,
Yoro
Hello Yoro,
GeoControl will have the usual upgrade system, which means, upgraders will have the versions a lower price, about 20% lower, as a new one.
So, if the version would cost 79€, and you have alreadey purchased version 1, you will have to pay the difference between 59€ and 79€ minus 20%, for example.
It will take some time for version 2, 6 months or longer.
But before version 2 there will be a second update, with some smaller improvements and updates are free.
Johannes
Hi Johannes,
thanks for the prompt answer. I would say, this offer sounds fair - and I dont wanna wait for half a year. So I'll buy it in the next days, looking foreward to all the functions which are disabled in the demo.
Greetz,
Yoro
There are no functions disabled in the demo. The menus are disabled, depending on where you are. So, if you are in the terrain panel, you can only use the terrain menu, if you switch to the project panel, the project menu is enabled and the terrain menu is disabled.
The full version contains the whole artists presets, that is the only difference.
Right, I meant in this case the filter presets. Anyway, meanwhile I got the full version D:

i tried the demo with Vue and i think GeoControl beats the heck of playing with Vue's Function Editor!
Great product! I just bought it! :D

Can't wait for geocontrol2. I only used the demo for version 1(repeatedly) and it's a nice software. Actually, most of my terrains are a mixture of Vue and Geocontrol. The basic terrain is made with geocontrol, then I use that map to generate a procedural in Vue... so I can mix up the details...:)

ps: i'll have to buy v.2 though...:)

I remember to have seen some of the images in the Vue rero gallery or at Eon. Really very nice renders.
If you buy GeoControl1 you get access to the pre-release!
Else you can wait about 3 weeks and then you can buy the pre-release directly.

And what is the date where i can buy pre-release?
I use beta now and i don't want to pass throught the prerelease special price
Thanks

That screens look very promising. Looking forward to your terrains.
I just bought Geocontrol last week and I'm waiting the money transfer to be confirmed to get my hands in Geocontrol 2. The Demo is impressive but I want those shaders/selections erosions in the final build. ;)

Hallo Community,
carasha
