.TIF files: made by GeoControl?

In the directory where I store all images and other files made with the Alpha version I've discovered a lot of .TIF files, most of them gray.
I assume GC generated these, right? Why? And can I disable this function?

When you use the tif export for 16 bit tifs, GeoControl produces a tif file, else I do not no, where they should come from. How they are named?

That is really odd. I do not have this problem.

Sorry for bothering you with this, I found out it's a Terragen .TGW (used for quickly dressing up the terrain) causing this. The names of the .TIF files gave me the clue but missed that because it was way over bedtime.
