Sorry I don't know how to submit thumbnails! Can anyone suggest how - don't want to clog people's bandwidth.
A couple of Vue 6 Infinite renders using GC1.3 terrains. Am still learning how to get realistic textures on large terrains, so any suggestions welcome. Procedural vs. bitmapped?
Any suggestions welcome.
P.S. I'd be happy to Alpha test version 2.
Thanks
Richard

Wow!!!
Very, very impressive!!!
Great work!
In 1st shot it's very awesome spume water effect.
In 2nd shot it's particular attractive the castle in the stronghold. It is a real castle representation or is your imagination's work?

Thanks!
I forgot to mention credits, as my mind was focused on the terrains. The castle is a freebie from Planit3d.com. The foam on the water is created by a multi-layer shader, where the foam density is a function of the depth to the geometry underneath. great for shorelines for example.
The new spectral atmospherics in Vue 6 really work well with large scale scenes - possible to create great depth and distance, with scenes fading into the haze in the background.

Looks like nice work to me and very good looking water and atmospheres. I really envy you lucky Vue users with such beautiful water and atmospheres.
For textures on terrains in Cinema 4D I have used large jpg photographs of real terrains - but somewhat close-up. The area photographed might only be as big as 75 feet wide (20 m. ) or even as small as 5 feet wide. I have best luck with an overall kind of interest but with some definite variations in color and texture. Also best from natural stone walls or dirt embankments. Then I make a large (4086x4086 or larger) high res bitmap - even pasting together several photos if necessary. The higher the res and size, the better. Apply that to the terrain and let the software UV it where it wants to. I use a little bump derived from the actual bitmap too - no need to make a special bumpmap from it but it does sometimes look better if I do. I make up several versions of this - maybe 8 or 10 to keep on file. If I don't like the way one comes out then I try another. It is much up to chance. Hope this is a little help for you in Vue.

Judging by some of the gallery renders, I think some of the Terragen water shaders work better at distance than some of the Vue ones, esp "birds eye view" ones. Will need to conduct some experiements with Vue "Open Ocean" fractal shaders and see how I get on.

If you use the proc. terrain with the ocean function (fractal) you will get fantastic oceans. Even better then TG!
