I have used 3D programs for some time but only recently got interested in terrain modeling. I find GC a very productive program but have ran into a couple of problems that have stumped me.
When I open a GC project or terrain that I previously created, the only thing I get when I gererate it is flat landscape. It will not show any of the terrain objects.
The other issue is when I import a terrain into Carrara5 the features seem to always render smooter than the sharp edges that I created in GC.
There is probably something simple that I am missing here but would appreciate any assistance.

Hello Phils,

That should not happen. What do you mean with: When I open a terrain?
How do you save the project? I need here a more detailes desciption.
The other issue is when I import a terrain into Carrara5 the features seem to always render smooter than the sharp edges that I created in GC.
After importing into carrara, ensure you have unchecked the "Smooth terrain" and that you have set the renderresolution of the terrain to the terrainsize. Carrara uses as stanard a 257*257 quality, so you have to increase it.

Thanks for your reply cajomi.
I knew there was something simple I was missing on the Carrrera issue.
As far as the project saving I am still adrift.
Does the project only save to the default folder created by the program?
I created a new folder on another drive, gave the project a new name and it saved with the gcs file extention. When I open that file I get a blank slate. I am confussed as to the difference in saving a project and saving the project and/or terrain settings.

Hi PhilS,
if you save as setting (gcs = setting) only the values of all controls are stored. If your settings load blank, that can have two reasons:
1. You have forgotten to push "generate" after you have loaded the setting
2. You had used the brush, or by another reason, the protection slider (Protect terrain up to Level) is not set to 1.
So if you load your gcs, set the slider to 1, and push generate.
In opposite to the settings a full project saving save all terrain datas + the control settings. That is the way, you should save, if you have used the brush, cutted a terrain or had imported one.
Read the help files about the Dynamic Level Generation to understand the basic concept of GC.
I now understand the the file protocol, It was just a bit confusing since the program utilizes folders the way it does.

yes, this also was a bit critic of the testers. But I kept this, else you would enormous files.
I am just thinking about a third format, a GC format, that would save a terrain with all Level terrains. May be version 2.
