Another idea and attempt to liven the forum up. How about a fortnightly landscape challenge? I don't have the time to join in myself, but perhaps others will enjoy it?

No prizes or anything, just a bit of harmless fun.

This week's challenge

Saskatchewan Glacier

Don't worry about making it photorealistic, or even bother having to render it in some fancy setting or add tree's, textures (unless you wanted to). The little contest would simply involve attempting to mimic the structure of the landscape itself, how the snow and ice has formed.

Using GeoControl of course. :) See how it fairs with something random like that.

This is a good idea. Can GeoControl beginners take part? I think it would be a great way to learn. :)

EDIT:
I just noticed how old this post is! But I still think its worth doing. :)

Well, to create a terrain according to a photo template is only something for really masters. It is extrem difficult and mostly frustrating. You should have an overview from the top to understand the horizontal scaling.
The image is dominated by the glacier, which is very difficult to simulate and has very strong sedimentations.
This is not really possible with GC1.

But with GC2 it should be possible. GC2 still can not produce a glacier, but the rest should work.

I might hold out for GC2 then.

BTW if you're looking for another tester let me know. I'd love to see what it can do. :)

GC2 is very short for pre-release for all GC1 owners.

Excellent! I bought GC1 two days ago. :)
