As a means of importing a 16bit per color channel solution into Terragen 2 i found that Terragen 2 will read 16bit SGI files. This will work as a temporary means until GeoControl has 16bit per channel export options available. Here i simply colored the gray scale map with a 16bit color gradient map in my photo editor and saved as a SGI and imported into Terragen 2 so now i have more of use for seeing nice terrains inside Terragen 2.

Here is what it looks like only 8bit per color channel. Notice the color banding.
