While I am not displeased with the final results I'm getting out of Vue (most of my problems are due to my lack of understanding how GC2 and Vue work), I'm not exactly satisfied either.

I wonder, then, if stand-alone renderers might produce a detailed/sharp result? I have both Vue Infinite 6 and Carrara Pro so I have plenty of power. I also can't afford high-end rendering packages.

What are the experiences/expertise of the forum members with stand-alone renderers rendering GC2 terrains. Or are there other programs -- I've seen some mentioned here -- that would more easily produce spectacular results.

Again, I understand that if I was an expert with Vue I could probably create the terrains I want. I simply don't have the time right now to get to that level of expertise. So, as I said, I wonder if there is a better way of rendering.

I use Maya 6.5 for rendering. Here are some examples of a recent render. The island was created and painted using GeoControl-2. Maya is very expensive but dirt cheap if you buy a student copy. I'm not at all happy with Maya trees. I've read up on Carrara Pro, maybe that's the way to go. Too bad about Vue 6 not doing the trick. It's not exactly cheap at $ 700 US per copy either.
