I used the Ground Control plugin form DCG to inport a 32 bit map into Carrara. Also used the GC shader along with the Carrara terrain shader for extra snow around the base.

That looks incredible you know.

I'm looking for an alternative to VUE6 since that is crashing randomly and aaaall the time.

So gonna check this out :-)

That looks pretty good. Very sharp details. Could you get a nice reflection off of the snow at all?

Nice to have you back here again. Loooking forward to some impressive carrara renders. For a while it seemed, that landscaping was forgotten by the carrara users.

Looks really good.
Did you use a high antialias? I am missing a crisp surface.

btw: The upload limit was rised for jpg, so you can also use the attachement function. It will produce the preview in the thread listing.

Thanks, it looks a bit smooth because of soft shadows, low bump on the surface and fast anti-alias. I'm testing some other versions of the scene with sharper bump and indirect lighting. I was able to get 3 copies of this 4,000 x 4,000 terrain into Carrara so that seemed to be a breakthrough. I really like the glaciation preset you did.

32bit? Does this mean carrara can produce superior terrain instead of other programs like Vue or TG?

There is a plugin which allows the 32 bit World Machine format to be imported.

You can simply use the raw 32 bit export, the first in the list.
Also you can simply rename the r32 to raw and then import it directly with Carrara.

There is no doubt, that the import quality of Carrara is the best in the market. You get exact that terrain imported, that you had created in GeoControl.
But to be true, you will definitly see no difference between a 16bit and a 32bit terrain.
GeoControl needs that format internally, to ensure, that during height corrections and zooming in no details are lost.
