Hi cajomi,

I don't know if you have heard this before, but when I try to install the beta of GeoControl2, my anti-virus software (Trend Micro Internet Security 2008) prevents the installer from completing and quarantines one of the files from the installer called "stp2.dll". I think this is a false-positive and do not believe there is actually a virus involved. I think I remember build 28 doing the same thing and I had to disable the virus checker to install it.

But the best way to know is to have the anti-virus company make the determination. Usually, the anti-virus companies ask to send files like this in to them so they can refine their software not to complain if it's not a real virus file. Perhaps you could contact Trend Micro about this? Or I wouldn't mind doing it if you give me permission to send them the beta installer file. Since it's destined to time out soon, it probably isn't a real risk for you to let them have a copy of it.

Here's what the anti-virus software pops up when it quarantines the file and stops the installation from running:

There is no problem, if you send them the file. For running GeoControl they would need the licence key.
The file with the problem is not a GeoControl file, but is created by the install tool, which I use to create the setup. So, if you send them the setup, they can clear that problem with the install dll.

Thank you in advance

Hi cajomi,

Okay, I'll get in touch with them and see if they can clear this up - hopefully for future builds as well, since they'll presumably use the same file.

Hi cajomi,

I have provided the build 29 installer to Trend Micro and have copied you on that email as well. Hopefully, it doesn't get caught in your spam filter. Trend Micro are going to check the file and if they determine that it indeed is a false-positive, then they are going to update their anti-virus software so that GeoControl does not trigger any more false-positives in the future.

I finally got this resolved with Trend Micro. It was quite the ordeal. I think I've spoken with every technical person in their company by now. But with the latest pattern file released today, neither beta build 29 nor 30 was detected as having that PAK_Generic.001 virus. If the installer's stp2.dll does not change, this should not be an issue going forward, either.
