I want to purcahse GeoControl 2 but it looks like you can only purchase Geo Control 1?

Is it possible to create something like this in GeoControl then export it to VUe and get as good and crisp clear terrains as this MArs Photo?

http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/PSP_007403_1670

Click on the phot either once or twice to see the nice elongated grey map.

I don't necessarily want to make a elongated map like that. I just want the clarity, crispness, sharpness etc.

One Last question. I see many of you are rendering your scenes in different products. SO far I liek Terragen renders. I am unsure if VUE can render as good as terragen?

Anyhow can I import a GeoControl into MAYA and use the built in Menetal Ray renderer?

For purchasing this is something Cajomi would have to answer.

There is a thread about how to get those crisp terrains from Vue here:
http://www.cajomi.de/Forum/showthread.php?t=532

As far as the mars map features are concerned to me it looks like a lot of inversed high-sedimentation that is taking place there. Try experimenting with those filters with isolines and see what you get.

I can't really comment on what is better concerning Terragen or Vue. For there are things i like about Terragen and there are things i like about Vue. You can get terrains that are fairly comparable to Terragen terrains using the techniques in the link to that thread i had posted above. See what you can get out of that.

As long as Maya can accept .OBJ or use 16bit gray scale maps as displacement over a flat plain mesh then you should have no problem using GeoControl terrains in Maya but i am somewhat guessing here as i have never used Maya myself.

We are still working in the new website, where you then can purchase GeoControl2.
There is not difference in sharpness between GeoControl1 and 2, but for example, for Vue you need 16bit tif, what only GeoControl2 exports. With GC1 you have to export as raw and convert the raw with PS or another pixel graphic software.

About maya: In general it is much more work to create convincing landscape scenes with software, that has no specialized functions for terrain rendering.

To be honest, this mars photo doesn't show a lot of detail, so it's definatly in the range of a 2048 - 4096 terrain.

But the kind of variety is not something you can achieve with external terraingenerators. Try to work with isolines. they can do lots.

Vue is an amazing product, that can render great terrains, but it is about your skills and the time you put into it. Vue's renderengine is atleast as well developed as TG2's (talking Radiosity). A lot of terrains you see in TG2 are done with displacement mapping instead of 2,5D terrains, which is what Vue can do aswell.

Once you really get tuned into Vue, you'll love it, and it's one of the very BEST user interfaces and userfriendly interfaces i've ever come across.

What i like is the way you can draw terrains in Vue, and that way you can brush a terrain that is not so uniform, you can also use it to edit imported GC2 terains.
