Hi,

Having only just discovered GeoControl, I'm really interested in buying it based solely on the pics posted in this forum.

However, there are a few things I'm not clear on and wondered if you could help please? :)

1. If I buy GeoControl 1, how much would an upgrade to 2 cost? Just want an idea of the overall cost of getting v2 when it is released.

2. Am I right in thinking this software doesn't render the final scene (like Terragen)? If I need an external renderer, would Bryce or the old Terragen work well?

3. If it's purely a terrain generator (I'm still not clear on this), do the atmospheric, water, terrain and sky features need to be added in other software like Bryce or Terragen?

More questions to come :p

Thank you,
Jim

Let me answer some of the questions for you. The author, Cajomi, is not here currently.

2-> Terragen is a pure Terrain exporter that uses image files like .bitmaps that can be imported in another render program, which would read the greyscale-levels of the image to make a 3d object out of. The render in GC2 currently is just to preview the terrain-outcome properly.

The other thing Geocontrol2 exports are colormaps which can be imported in another program as the complete material of the terrain. Or you can export selections which define the area the program should apply it's own materials on.

3-> The atmospheric settings currently have nothing to do with what you export. Render programs like the ones you mentioned have their own atmospheric systems.

Current renderprograms I'd recommend are Vue, Carrara or maybe the upcoming terragen2 when it comes to a considerable public version or use the old one.
