Hi Cajomi,
I'm trying to use a normal map generated out of GC2 in renderman.
Can you tell me what space it was generated in... object or tangent?
any clues appreciated, as this is my first attempt ever at normal maps.
thanks
Brian
It is not possible to realize, where you are. You must try it.

Hi Brian,
I believe it's Object space.

If it looks like a rainbow = Object / World Space
If it's mostly blue = Tangent
Also don't forget that if it still doesn't look quite right, and you're sure you've chosen the right space. Check to see if it's outputting the directions the same as your 3D application. In other words, you might have to flip one or more channels depending on what you're using and how similar both handle their normal maps.
For example. I think you used to have to flip the blue channel vertically when going from ZBrush to Lightwave before version 9, but not if going from ZBrush to Softimage.
I know this is an old thread but oh well. :P
