New version not working with my license code (registration key). I get message "The licence name or the registration key was wrong, please try again!"
All old versions worked. This one does not.

Hi Johannes,

I just downloaded and installed the Geocontrol2.exe. I uninstalled first the previous build.

I tried to run it and it crashed unless I execute it as an Administrator (Right click + Run as Administrator).

I forgot I bought an GC1 license when GC2 was in beta. So I thought maybe I needed to install the update_GeoControl2.exe.

So I uninstalled the Geocontrol2.exe, and installed the update_GeoControl2.exe.

Same problem, it crashes 100% unless I run it as an Administrator.

And when I run it as an Administrator and ask me for the serial (that has been working perfectly with previous builds), it gives me the error: "The license name or registration key was wrong, please try again!"

Any ideas?

David

Hi Johannes,

Of course I bought it. But remember it is under other name (company manager), I sent you a mail about it when I bought it.

But at the end i found the problem, it was my fault, I was using the GC1 key, my apologies.

Hi,

I just downloaded build 38 and I have the same problems as rgcarey. Build 37 worked fine.

When I run 38 it crashes straight away but if I 'Run as administrator' then it works OK.

I uninstalled 37 before installing 38.

My order is 217 if it helps verifying I bought it.

Thanks

Phil

I have the same problem. Previous builds worked fine but now I get the "licence name or regisitration key was wrong".

And now I uninstalled previous version, as requested in the mail, and I got nothing! Neither the old version nor the new one!

I am having the same problem also - it won't accept either my name or my registration key. Both worked before.

Good to know there is a problem. I think I wait with downloading the new one until the issue is resolved!

Uninstalled 37 , deleted folders etc, rebooted , downloaded 38update , reinstalled , program runs fine never asked for the license because it remembered?? the license from 37.

The problem is not related with Vista. My problems happened in XP, 32 bits.

Same here, Build38 worked without problems. It might be a rights issue because the regdata file is located in the Personal Folders (Documents and Settings) wich are usually write protected from other user accounts. so if you used Administrator account to install and try to run in regular User then this wont work of course.
btw I have XP64 Pro

Thx Cajomi for the new version. It seems stable and solid.

I tried to download both versions (full and upgrade) and seems that the issue affects only the full version, because i tried to install the upgrade one and it works fine

Hi mauronen,

thanks for the answer. The full version can not running with your keys only the upgrade version works.

Have you try the build38 or build39?

Hi to all with download problems!

I work on the solution. And I have a guess: You must look, that you have the right download!!!!

1) When you have buy in the past the fullversion from GC1 and after you have buy the upgrade version for GC2, you must always download the upgrade version:

http://www.geocontrol2.com/Downloads/dsqevloreqmjkfgh/update_GeoControl2.exe

2) Else, when you have not buy the GC1 and you have buy the GC2 fullversion, you must download always the full version:

http://www.geocontrol2.com/Downloads/dsqevloreqmjkfgh/GeoControl2.exe

Try it please again and let me know if is going ok or not.

Hi,

I've made a few investigations which I hope will help.

1. I have a Vista64 PC with my Build37 working fine. I uninstalled 37 and installed 38. 38 crashes every time I run it. But if I run as admin then 38 works OK and I don't need to enter registration because it is remembered.

2. I have 2 other PCs with Vista64. Neither of these have ever had GeoControl installed. If I install Build38 on either of these then Build38 crashes before I can even enter registration info. If I run as admin then I am asked for registration details.

3. I have an XP32 PC. This PC has never had GeoControl installed and Build38 works fine. Don't need to run as admin.

4. I have an XP64 PC and this has never had GC2 installed. I installed and Build38 works fine. Don't need to run as admin.

I wish I had a Vista32 PC to see what happens.

At the moment it looks like it is a Vista issue as both XP32 and XP64 do not crash. Every Vista64 PC I tried with Build38 crashes unless I run as admin.

Maybe that helps?

Hi,

The fact that GC crashes on Vista if you do not Run as an Administrator, it is due to UAC (User Acces Control) in Vista.

I suppose powerbasic, that it is what I vagely remember Johannes uses to program GC must have a setting on its configuration to compile the programs to work with Vista UAC.

At least I have it on Visual C++ that it is what I usually use to program.

If you turn off that setting, Vista will ask you to give them permissions to run every time you try to open them. And sometimes I saw that make them crash.
