Default GeoControl 2 (build 41) import into Vue Infinite 7.51

Here is a Vue Infinite 7.51 render. The background terrain is a Vue procedural (256x256) with a GeoControl 2 TIF heightmap image applied to both its altitude and bump (both 2048x2048). The terrain color applied was from the GeoControl 2 BMP export (also 2048x2048). The final terrain was scaled up to fit the scene.

See http://www.shonner.com/ta/images/vue...er_scene_6.jpg

See http://www.shonner.com/ta/images/vue...r_scene_6d.jpg for the overall scale of the scene.

Default A serious question

Hi guys, new here, but I wanted to ask a serious question about Vue/GeoControl integration. I currently use Vue 8 (seriously THE buggiest application in the history of computing). I have had several discussions on various forums about GeoControl versus Worldmachine. I have used WM before, and frankly was not very impressed - it seemed to be simply a somewhat more glorified version of Terragen. However I used the GeoControl demo and was very pleased with the results I have gotten so far within the demo.

So... my question is this, IS there to your knowledge a comprehensive unbiased review of the pro's and con's of either program GC or WM? As I stated I have had several discussions concerning this, including the insistence of a high end Vue vendor on Cornucopia 3D that WorldMachine is the much better choice. I disagree with his assessment wholeheartedly, but I would like to have some knowledge and perhaps links to back me up here.

Thank you guys for your time

Build 47776 of Vue Infinite 8.0 is the only version that works very good without problems for me.

I don't think there are many people that have used both GeoControl and World Machine or heard of both (maybe only hearing of one or the other because it's a very niche market this terrain stuff) AND have made a review that compare the two.

My take is to have both. Because a toolbox needs tools in it, rather than trying to use one tool that does everything. I like GeoControl because it does great terrain and imports into Vue very nicely. Those two features are must haves. If World Machine can do this also, it would need to do something else that GeoControl and Vue (and Carrara) cannot do for me in order to add WM to my toolbox.

Thank you for that answer.

I used World Machine 1 for a while before GeoControl. While it made some nice terrains, I didn't like the node interface and the just random terrain generation. I like GeoControl much better, it's more direct and has more control for me, and it's also more visual to work with. I've never used WM2, so it may be improved. But, once I used GC, I never went back to WM.
