Very nice, and as a beginner in isolines it makes things much easier to understand. Thanks for putting that together Oh, very clear audio here, I'm using Windows Media Player 11.

This was a fabulous tutorial. It was clear and concise. Isolines are so much easier than the brush tool and I didn't think they would be. Thanks a lot. My audio was fine.

Hello and thanks for this tutorial, but I have a noob question. In the tutorial when you make the island and are changing the height of it by increasing the layers your overall terrain stays the same shape. However when I follow the tutorial down to your clicks, my overall terrain reshapes every time. Why does it do this? Is there something I am not seeing in the tutorial? Thanks for your help, and great software. Hopefully will make my days spent in vue turn into hours spent in vue

Your question is not noob.
If you switch to the "General" panel, you'll find a checkbox "Keep Seed". Checking this will make the shape static, for evey generation the same random numbers are taken.
If you uncheck it, for every generation the random numbers change.
So what you find out is, that the isolines do not determine the terrain up to the finest detail, but only determine the basic shape.
With one isoline set you can produce unlimited different terrains. And often it is sensful to uncheck the keep seed.
For example you want a river like valley and try to form it with isolines. But the "river" is broken, in the flow of the river there is an obstacle.
Now uncheck "keep seed" and push generate and the shape changes. Repeat this until the obstacle is gone.

The reason for this behavior is, that GeoControl needs this "random" factor to produce fractal structures, which look realistic. If the random noise in the heigher levels now always is positiv at some locations, this part are rised and in a river valley an obstacle appears.
