Well...without words!
Selection is a very powerful GC2 feature. In this tut you've put attention about selection parameters usage into whole terrain. I hope that in the next selection tut you could explain how model (applying different shape filters or different erosion filters with different selections) different terrain parts. I think that this GC2 feature usage could interest very much many GC2 modelers. Could suggest to you to set up next selection tut starting from imported selections, perhaps excerpt from a real image map or from a fantasy map? I think that starting from this point of view could discover another real powerful feature of GC2: the possibility to start from a work built by other tools (in that case, selection created by painter tools like Photoshop or Gimp). What do you think about it? Another thingh: filter curve is red filled. This feature is absent into build 23. Are you releasing soon another build? Thanks!!
Yes, there are some improvements, like the filled filter curve, the reset, copy and paste button for filter curves, the filter curves for shading, which will are in the next build. I have tried that idea, I would call it "zones" to use for creating a landscape with 3 fixed imported map. Well, I have found, that this really does not work good. In nature landscapes are not separated with clear regions. That zone approach does not create a natural landscape. It looks like best approach is to create special maps, only were needed. For example: If you want a moutainscape with soft hills in the foreground, you would need a map, to restrict the ridge filter from the softer hills, or to restrict the thin flows sediment from the round hills. But the noise would be the same. And to produce for example a canyon like region in a height plateau beside the mountains, well the there I would see not reason for separating them. The canyon walls also need some ridged structures and the terraces I would create with the isolines. How about sending me a "template", where you see the need for such zones, and I will try a tut, based on the template/map? |

Import/export filtercurve:
Well, yes, should be. It looks like the render applications have there some problems for proper using the alpha channel, for example missing a filter curve editor. I think I will improve that in the final release, together with 16bit maps for the alpha channels. That will be a great step forward. |

What are the "add", "Substract" and "Avarage"-Settings in the selections for? Couldn't find anything on that.

And they don't seem to do anything either, cuz I've selected each one and re-rendered the thing and it didn't seem that anything changed?

Try this. Create a terrain and apply, say, "terraces sharp" filter, to ensure that we have some steep slopes. Go to selectors and enable height and set a minimum clip of 2400 or something. Hit Create and you should see the highest points selected. Now go to Slope and enable it also and set a minimum of 50 or so. This will select the steepest slopes. Hit Create. Because both Height and Slope were set to subtract you end up with just the steep slopes at within the Height selection. If you set Slope to Add, and hit Create, it will add the steep slopes (at all heights) to the Height selection. If you select Average you get a more fuzzy selection based on how much overlap there is between the two. Play around with the other selectors in combination and with Add, Subtract and Averages to get some excellent control over selections.

Hmm... ok, I think I get what you just said, so I'll have to test that out I think to really see better what you are talking about, I'm sure?
